I first heard of Audrey through reputation only, so upon meeting her, I had no idea what to expect other than the following:

  • I knew that she was a fantastic mother. The reason she wasn't with us that season, and only her artwork would be joining the artist collective that we were vending, was because she had just had her baby. She put her family before her income, her friends, her recognition. People stopped at the booth at every event we vended and asked for her, and every person was told she was home with new baby and immediately recognized that that's exactly where she would be.
  • She was (is) an amazing artist. Her work is not only aesthetically pleasing, it speaks to people. She manages to convey expression, depth, and live in each piece she produces. Not only that, but every piece I have ever seen has been polished and professional. Audrey takes as much care in her art as she does in all of her life.
  • She was one if the sweetest people I'd never met. Even before we said hello, her reputation preceeded her as the person that would care for you, look out for you, give you the shirt off her back if you didn't have one. And it would be exactly the short you'd been looking for.

These are the things I found d out before we met. After I got to know Audrey, I also found out she is an amazing friend of mine. I have heard the charges she us accused of, and I can't imagine her coming close to committing the crime. Someone that steals from honest people is not a person that I would invite to my house. That I would welcome around my children. That I would meet at 4am with a bag of baked good because her bus just happened to stop in front of my house.

If I can sum up Audrey in one word, it would be the pseudonym that she uses for her artwork. Audrey Angel. There are few Angels that walk with us. It would be a shame for this one to serve a punishment that is undeserved and completely unfounded. I don't have any resources, personally, but every spare penny that I can gift to Audrey to help appeal this injustice is a penny well spent.
