My name is Clifton Dawayne Brooks. I'm a friend of Audrey Cannon and have known her for nearly ten years. I've known about her unfortunate and unjust legal situation since last November. A few days ago I found out Ms. Cannon had been falsely convicted of burglary and is now facing prison, as well as being taken away from her partner and children. My understanding is that the evidence that led to Ms. Cannon's conviction was nothing more than a ten year old fingerprint found on a vintage bottle of alcohol. This is an incredible miscarriage of justice. I've known Audrey for years and have lived with her. I can tell you that she is in no way capable of what she has been accused and [now] convicted of. As a former house mate, I can also say that thievery and dishonesty were that last things I had to worry about from her. When we lived together there had been many times when Audrey could have stolen from me, but never did. When bills were in my name I never had a problem collecting money from her... not once. The charges against her make absolutely no sense, especially considering the severity of them! This isn't at all like Audrey, and so far as I know never has been. One major reason why I'm convinced of Audrey's innocence is because she and I are both artists, and we both know what it is like to have our valuable works stolen and/or destroyed by unscrupulous people. Another reason is because she has far too much to lose and would never so foolishly jeopardize that. But I am also concerned that as an Alternative person, Audrey was simply judged based on her appearance. This is not justice. An innocent woman being punished for what someone else did is not justice. I ask the court not to do this. Don't punish someone for a crime she did not commit. This is not Audrey and she does not deserve this. Thank you for hearing me out.
